Falling Forward

Fall is a great time to reflect on the year thus far, plan for a strong finish, and look forward to fitness in the year ahead. Editor Brian DeLay shares his favorite things about fall.

Many of my favorite things occur in the fall. My favorite runs and bicycle rides through the abundant trees and cornfields along the country roads near my home. My favorite hikes with my family on trails canopied by hues of orange, yellow, and deep blue. And my wife’s incredibly delicious (and healthy) pumpkin and cinnamon pancakes.

Fall is also when I find myself reflecting on the year thus far. Have I accomplished goals I set earlier in the year? Have I spent enough time with my kids? Did I train hard enough to beat last year’s time in the Turkey Trot 5K.

And in a sense, there is a measure of hope and encouragement in the fall because I have a bit more time to finish the year strong. More time to accomplish another goal. To plan a few more activities that are fun and meaningful for my family and myself.

With regard to that last item, another of my family’s favorite fall activities is taking on a corn maze challenge. There’s nothing quite like getting out in the autumn air, navigating (and racing) through a corn maze together. One of the best we’ve come across is Sever’s Corn Maze and Fall Festival.

Fall is a great time to get out and stay active, together! What are you looking forward to this fall? Here are some great activities to help get you started.
